Hawksbill turtle washed up on Australian beach 29 Dec 2006
Sunburnt and sickly, Henry the hawksbill turtle was washed up on a beach at Shoalhaven Heads this week.

Found by a surf-lifesaving crew, Henry spent a night in care in Wollongong, then was on his way to Taronga Zoo yesterday for treatment.

"He's very sick and underweight ... he's in a bad way but he'll be all right," Australian Seabird Rescue volunteer Julie Clarke said of five-year-old Henry.

"He weighs about 3.9kg and should be about 10kg at his age. He's also half floating, which is an indication he's got something stuck in his intestine - turtles see plastic packaging from drink cans and think it's jellyfish glimmering in the sun so it's likely that's what he's eaten.

"And because he's been floating, his shell is sunburnt and all scaly, but it will recover from that."
