Reporting for National Geographic's 'Wildlife Watch', Rachael Bale documents the recent seizure at sea, by Sabah Marine Police, of nearly 20,000 sea turtle eggs.
The Straits Times first reported the story of the major egg smuggling bust. Four pump boats were detected in local waters in the early hours of 16 July. After a 15-minute pursuit, the Marine Police discovered on board many large sacks full of eggs with a street value of some RM30,000 ($7,500). They detained four Filipinos on suspicion of smuggling and another eight suspected illegal immigrants.
