This publication is the outcome of a workshop organised by the Tanzanian NGO Sea Sense and the French University La Rochelle and sponsored by the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA). The workshop brought together relevant scientists, conservationists and managers to review the level of threat from fisheries, both coastal and pelagic, in the WIO region and to produce recommendations.

This Forum of fishery participants from around the world focused not only on seabird longline bycatch but also incidental catches of sea turtles in pelagic longline fisheries.

A concrete outcome of the IFF2 was the 65 commitments made by participants to projects to protect sea turtles and seabirds.
